Finding treasures is one of my greatest joys in life. Treasure can be anything that brings you excitement, for me, treasure looks like a brilliant blue bluejay feather against the gravely grey ground of the forest. Treasure could be a rock shaped like a heart that I can give to my auntie who collects heart rocks for her heart rock garden. Often treasure looks like a wonderfully designed candy wrapper, or a coffee cup sleeve from my favorite coffee spot that I can tuck into my scrapbook to help me remember a wonderful moment spent with my favorite people. Sometimes I like to find my treasures in antique stores or thrift stores, in particular I enjoy finding vintage jewelry boxes, or candy jars that can hold more treasures. Over the past few year I have found these small treasures and have slowly created one of my favorite bodies of work. I use these vessels to house precious memories of pets that have moved on. These works create an escape into the moments we hold most dear with our animals. A small space to immortalize is what these treasures allow. As an artist the world is constantly gifting me inspiration, and all I must do is be open to receiving it. With this post I encourage you to find your own treasures, big or small, and allow them to lead you into new discoveries and ideas. Interacting with a treasure sometimes just means we stop to acknowledge what we have seen, and in that pause we are playing and enjoying the world around us.
